Iowa Coin Toss
Did Hillary actually win convention delegates with a coin toss?
National Review says Sanders won by actual votes. Hillary only wins by coin flips:
The final count of delegates to the state convention (aside from the seven won by Martin O’Malley) was Clinton 699, Sanders 695. But by actual voter decisions, the count was Sanders 695, Clinton 693, and six ties. Sure, Clinton right now goes to the state convention with four more committed delegates than Sanders, but she didn’t win her margin via voters, but by a mathematically bizarre series of coin flips.
Bern is flipping out.
Coin Toss
CNN says it ain’t so. Here’s Norm Sternberg a former director of the Iowa Democratic Party:
“I can say with almost absolutely certainty this election would not have been changed because of the coin flips. It would take a very large number of these to make that kind of impact, and one candidate would have to win them all. Our empirical evidence and anecdotal information shows that one candidate didn’t win them all, and that coin flips are not that frequent.”
Now the Des Moines Register is calling for an audit of the Coin Toss Caucus.
Hill and Bern in Lockstep
Hill and Bern left the Hawkeye State in lockstep with the FBI hot on the trail. They finished in a virtual tie in the Iowa Caucus.
The NYT reported on Friday that the State Department refused to release 22 emails on Hillary’s home brew computer because they are too highly classified.
Ed Kline reports that Hillary’s inner circle of Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, and Jake Sullivan have been told by the FBI to be prepared to testify.
Cruz Goldman Sachs Values
Hillary got $675,000 in speaking fees from Goldman Sachs. As any Clintonian would say, that’s old news. We expect it.
Ted Cruz failed to properly report a half million dollar loan from Goldman Sachs. The news here isn’t that he forgot to report the loan, it’s that the Wall Street bank lends him money. Not only that, his wife works there. At least she did until she took a recent leave of absence.
Goldman Sachs Values
Ted Cruz is a smart Princeton and Harvard guy. He’s undeniably conservative and has the courage of his convictions to stand up to the ethanol lobby in Iowa.
But neither a borrower or a lender be when you’re trashing New York values.
Fear of Bernie Sanders
The NYT reports that Team Clinton is attacking Bernie Sanders for pushing its progressive ideas too successfully.
Chelsea complained that he wants to dismantle Obamacare and move to single payer. Claire McCaskill says if he’s the nominee Republicans will break out hammer and sickle ads. And David Brock, publisher of the left wing Media Matters, called Sanders a Socialist Wackadoodle.
Bernie Sanders
Bernie is 12.6 points ahead of Hillary in the Real Clear Politics new Hampshire poll average.
Bill’s Speech Making
If this seems like a variation on a theme, it is.
Hillary is running as a feminist. Katherine Timpf calls her a fake feminist. Hillary says women who accuse men of rape should be believed. Timpf points out that Hillary intimidated women who accused Bill of sexual assault.
When a reporter asked her if Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick should be believed, Hillary responded that women should be believed until the evidence shows otherwise. According to Catherine Timpf “absolutely no evidence” has turned up to show otherwise. In fact Bill settled a suit by Paula Jones.
So, it seems like a good time to change the subject.
Bills Speech Making
Bill is good with money. In fact he’s so good The Wall Journal says, “two dozen companies and groups and one foreign government paid former President Bill Clinton a total of more than $8 million to give speeches around the time they also had matters before Mrs. Clinton’s State Department”
As Hillary would say, no evidence emerged showing a link between Bill’s speech making and her job overseeing the State Department.
He just gives a hell of a speech.
