Lawgiver
President Obama insists that he’s not a dictator or a king, but if Congress won’t act he will. How’s that work? He picks and chooses the laws he likes. In a speech last week he claimed the right to unilaterally “tweak” the Affordable Care Act because this is not a “normal political environment” – meaning Congress won’t do what he wants.
Funny, he didn’t have any trouble getting Congress’s cooperateration when they tweaked the law to subsidize the health care government workers must now buy through the exchanges. No one else earning$175,000 gets a subsidy.
George Will offers a pithy analysis of Obama’s Nixonian tendencies here.
Clapper Trap
On Tuesday the president announced that James Clapper would head a panel to review NSA spying on American citizens. Clapper is the Supreme Spy who lied before Congress about spying on American citizens. When caught in his lie he responded that he had answered “in the least untruthful way possible”.
The administration later responded to outrage that Clapper even has a job by clarifying that rather than head the review he would merely “facilitate” it.
Clapper is also the guy who told an earlier congressional committee that the Muslim Brotherhood is a secular organization.
War on Women
Democrats created the “war on women” as a campaign issue against Republicans who didn’t want to pay for abortion and contraceptive coverage. Something fully supported by The Weiner The World Awaited and Filthy Filner.
In fact, Michelle Malkin notes on Twitchy that Planned Parenthood endorsed Filner in 2012 as a “long time defender of women”.
Of course, there is a history of women supporting bad boys.
Al Qaeda on the Run
After retreating from Iraq, Afghanistan, and US embassies around the Muslim world, the president called in the marines – as background props for a Camp Pendleton speech – to announce that the “United States is never going to retreat from the world”. “We don’t get terrorized,” he said.
He also repeated his claim that “the core of Al Qaeda is on the way to defeat”.
Or as the late Osama bin Laden put it, “When people see a strong horse and a weak horse they like the strong horse”.
