Elephant In Debate Room

Elephant in debate room

CNN says Hillary Clinton won the debate. Donald Trump disagrees but most other polls aren’t backing him up, so far.

Trump seemed to get the best of Hillary in the first 30 minutes when they tangled over trade rules. He caught her on the wrong side of President Obama’s Trans-Pacific Trade Deal, pointing out that she had called it the “gold standard.” Hillary denied this and then replied it wasn’t her responsibility and that she had changed her mind. So Trump insisted that she say it was Obama’s fault:

TRUMP: You called it the gold standard of trade deals. You said it’s the finest deal you’ve ever seen.

CLINTON: No.

TRUMP: And then you heard what I said about it, and all of a sudden you were against it.

CLINTON: Well, Donald, I know you live in your own reality, but that is not the facts. The facts are — I did say I hoped it would be a good deal, but when it was negotiated…

TRUMP: Not.

CLINTON: … which I was not responsible for, I concluded it wasn’t. I wrote about that in my book…

TRUMP: So is it President Obama’s fault?

CLINTON: … before you even announced.

TRUMP: Is it President Obama’s fault?

CLINTON: Look, there are differences…

TRUMP: Secretary, is it President Obama’s fault?

CLINTON: There are…

TRUMP: Because he’s pushing it.

CLINTON: There are different views about what’s good for our country, our economy, and our leadership in the world. And I think it’s important to look at what we need to do to get the economy going again. That’s why I said new jobs with rising incomes, investments, not in more tax cuts that would add $5 trillion to the debt.

At that point Trump seemed to be mopping the floor with her. But Hillary quickly got under his skin by trashing his business acumen and ethics.

She took a page from the Harry Reid playbook to claim Trump doesn’t pay income taxes. Incredibly, The Donald seemed to agree by saying, “it makes me smart.” For the record, PolitiFact doesn’t agree. It rates her claim mostly false.

But after that Trump seemed Low Eenergy.

Elephant In Debate Room

The elephant in debate room was the fact that Immigration, Benghazi, and the Clinton Foundation didn’t make the cut. Those issues were never brought up by moderator Lester Holt or Trump.

Unburdened of that baggage, Hillary dragged her prey off into the tall grass. There she dismembered the small handed one with accusations of racism and sexism.

She claimed the Stop and Frisk law was ruled unconstitutional and moderator Holt backed her up. She also insisted the murder rate continues to decline. In truth, Stop and Frisk was never ruled unconstitutional. And the FBI released a report the next morning showing the murder rate had surged 10.8% in 2015.

Hillary went on to back up her racism charge using Tulsa and Charlotte as “tragic examples.” Trump lacked the energy to point out that Black people rioted in Charlotte where a black man was killed by a black police officer who worked for a black police chief.

Big Dog and That Girl

Debbie Wasserman Schultzthat girlDebbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to step down as Democrat Party Chair. Hacked DNC emails revealed that she helped rig the primary election for Hillary. When she attempted to speak to the florida delegation she was booed off the stage .

That Girl

Meanwhile, the convention crowd couldn’t get enough of the Big Dog. Bill Clinton spun a yarn about that girl with the frizzy blonde hair and big glasses. There was no mention of “that woman” as Maureen Dowd was quick to point out.

Bill and Hillary would go on to the White House, the Senate, a seat as Secretary of State, and millions in speaking fees.

Hillary Howls

Donald Trump’s antics are bringing howls.

The campaign has become personal. Trump is attacking Jeb’s family and calling Cruz an unfit liar. Hillary has moved beyond the personal. When a candidate lies she barks like a dog.

That’s a lot of lonely barking.

Democrat Establishment Melt Down

160210-democrat-establishment

The Democrat establishment is worried about a Clinton campaign melt down.

Hillary says, “no worries.” She’s not the establishment. She’s “a woman running to be the first woman president.” Then, again, Bernie Sanders is a Jew running to be the first Jewish president.

The first woman lost New Hampshire to the first Jewish Democratic Socialist by 22 points.

Hillary wasn’t even the first woman to be Secretary of State. Madeleine Albright was.

Democrat Establishment

Albright says, “there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help women.” Evidently, that’s where you’ll find millennial women these days. They’re voting like crazy for Sanders. That’s because “that’s where the boys are,” according to Gloria Steinem. Kathleen Parker says there’s a more likely explanation:

…young liberal women, like their male counterparts, are attracted to the cool old guy because he’s promising a dream in which the rich have less and the poor have more. Robin Hood is so awesome.

Maureen Dowd thinks Hillary “is establishment enough.” Her sense of entitlement is her problem:

She has long been driven by a fear of being “dead broke,” as she put it — and a conviction that she deserved the life and perks she would have had if she had gone into the private sector. That led her to do her suspiciously lucrative commodity trades while Bill was Arkansas attorney general and to make Wall Street speeches on the cusp of her 2016 campaign, even though she and Bill had already made more than $139 million between 2007 and 2014.

Dowd says “Hillary isn’t likable enough for the young women who were supposed to carry her forward as a Joan of Arc.” At least not compared to “chick magnet” Bernie Sanders.

Bill’s Speech Making

160102-bills speech makingIf this seems like a variation on a theme, it is.

Hillary is running as a feminist. Katherine Timpf calls her a fake feminist. Hillary says women who accuse men of rape should be believed. Timpf points out that Hillary intimidated women who accused Bill of sexual assault.

When a reporter asked her if Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick should be believed, Hillary responded that women should be believed until the evidence shows otherwise. According to Catherine Timpf “absolutely no evidence” has turned up to show otherwise. In fact Bill settled a suit by Paula Jones.

So, it seems like a good time to change the subject.

Bills Speech Making

Bill is good with money. In fact he’s so good The Wall Journal says, “two dozen companies and groups and one foreign government paid former President Bill Clinton a total of more than $8 million to give speeches around the time they also had matters before Mrs. Clinton’s State Department”

As Hillary would say, no evidence emerged showing a link between Bill’s speech making and her job overseeing the State Department.

He just gives a hell of a speech.
