Commencement

Dana Milbank reports that our first black, Pacific, gay, woman president elbowed aside a real woman (Jill Abramson, the first female executive editor of the NYT) to give the commencement address at Barnard. Meanwhile a NYT/CBS poll showed Romney ahead of Obama with women voters.

Bully Pulpit

Will Mitt’s high school hair cutting hijinks lead to continued bullying if he makes it to the White House? If so, he’ll fit right in. Last time we checked, the Preezy was trying to bully the U.S. Supreme Court into a favorable ruling on Obama Care.

Now, Kimberly Strassel reports from the WSJ that he’s picking on private individuals. The Obama campaign site, Keeping the GOP Honest, posted a list of high rolling Romney donors – or as the site calls them, “”wealthy individuals with less-than-reputable records”. The campaign doesn’t just name names, it conducts opposition research to smear the donors, according to Strassel.

Personally, I think the Washington Post missed the story by focusing on Romney cutting a kid’s hair half a century ago. I want to know what the hell he was doing going over the boards to join in a hockey fight! (the picture is worth enduring the 14 second commercial)

Weight

Now the science is settled on food. According to a new study, “The Weight of the Nation”, to be shown on HBO, it’s largely the industrialized world’s fault you are fat. And it’s the government’s job to solve the problem. This is from the NY Times:

The films try to reorient conversations about obesity away solely from personal responsibility and toward a combination of environmental circumstances to explain why 70 percent of Americans are, according to federal statistics, either overweight or obese. While personal responsibility is an important piece, “you cannot say that all these people have lost all their willpower,” Mr. Hoffman said.

Evolution

Obama was for gay marriage before he was against it, before he was for it.

9/11 Defendants

Five 9/11 bad guys, including Sheik Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, were arraigned in a military court at Gitmo over the weekend. One of the defense attorneys wore an abaya and requested that women on the prosecution side do likewise to help her clients might avoid the occasion of sin. Another defense lawyer asked that his clients not be subject to strip search before entering the courtroom. The judge is thinking it over. As for the clients themselves? They prayed, refused to speak, and passed around a copy of The Economist magazine.
