Kentucky Same Sex Marriage Law

Kim Davis is a Kentucky clerk of courts who refused to issue same sex marriage licenses on religious grounds. That earned her a trip to the slammer. She was released this week.

Victor Davis Hanson has a great column about how some federal rules are more equal than others.

Scooter Libby, in the last panel of the cartoon, was accused of outing spy Valerie Plame. He didn’t do it. Richard Armitage did. Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald knew that all along but still went after Libby. He got him on perjury.

Nakoula is the filmmaker Hillary and the administration blamed for the Benghazi attack. It was a lie. Nakoula got thrown in jail anyway on a probation violation charge.

White House Secret Server

Hillary may have had over 300 classified documents on her secret server in a bathroom closet in Denver. She turned a server over to the FBI that had been wiped clean. Bob Woodward compared her email issues to Richard Nixon’s tapes. His tapes only contained an 18 minute gap.

Update:

Former CIA director John Deutch also stored classified information on his home brew hard drive.

He was pardoned in the final hours of the last Clinton administration. Marc Thiessen has details here.

Cecil Saves Planned Parenthood

Cecil the Lion chased baby body parts off the front page. The Planned Parenthood scandal isn’t popular with the Washington Elite. The Obama administration thinks Planned Parenthood adheres to the the highest ethical standards for fetus crunching. The Senate had no stomach for defunding the organization.

It wasn’t just the lion story. As of July 24 Michael Barone says there were 773 stories about the confederate flag compared to 31 on the Planned Parenthood video.

Stupid Things

President Obama visited a prison near Oklahoma City last week. He thinks sentences for non-violent crimes are too long. He calls it the “criminal injustice system”. He wants us to be like other countries. He says it’s not normal for so many young people to be locked up.

What is normal is teenagers do stupid things.

No Sanctuary for Kate Steinle

150710-sanctuaryIllegal immigrant Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez has served 181 months in prison over 15 years. He’s been convicted of seven flelonies and deported five times. After serving each of his various terms was returned to Mexico and then sneaked back over the border for more of the same.

The Lopez-Sanchez round trip crime tour came to an end April 15. Rather than ship him back to Mexico again, a local sheriff released him onto the streets of San Fransisco. At that point Lopez-Sanchez would have been untouchable, San Fransisco being a Sanctuary City. But he claimed he found a gun and shot 32 year old Kate Steinle while she walked with her father.

Here’s Michael Daly’s account in a Daily Beast story slugged The Murder Shaking San Francisco’s Liberal Soul.

A memorial for Kate Steinle was held on Thursday. Family and friends told stories of an adventurous, exuberant, and uncommonly kind young woman. They had a phrase for the sunny, uplifting impact she seemed to have on everybody, wherever her wide travels took her:

“The Kate effect.”
