Trump’s Speech
President Trump’s speech from the oval office was short and sweet. He demanded five and a half billion for a border wall, or barrier, or something sticking out of the ground, but didn’t declare a national emergency.
Base Fear
Marc Theissen thought it was great. Trump reached out to Americans beyond his base.
But Chuck and Nancy thought otherwise. Nancy says the wall is immoral. Chuck said Trump used the oval office to manufacture a crisis. And they both looked stiff and uncomfortable.
Could be they were looking to reach beyond their base too.
Sports Illustrated Too
Christine Blasey Ford Presents Award
The publisher of the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue gave its Inspiration of the Year award to Rachael Denhollander. Rachel was the first to accuse Dr. Larry Nasser of sexually abusing her as a young gymnast under his care. And over 150 other other victims came forward to corroborate her story.
Here testimony put Dr. Nasser in prison for 175 years. And his employer, Michigan State University, paid $500 million in settlements to 332 victims. Vox has has an in depth story of what happened here.
Christine Blasey Ford Presents Award
Judge Kavanaugh was put on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Obama Judges Trump Judges
U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar ruled against President Trump on an immigration matter. So Trump called him an Obama judge. And that prompted Chief Justice John Roberts to publicly rebuke the President, explaining, “there are no Obama judges or Trump or Bush or Clinton judges.”
Obama Judges
Mark Thiessen thinks jumping into a political argument is a funny way for Justice Roberts to show he’s above politics.
You may have noticed Trump doesn’t claim to be above politics. So he counterpunched that judges are a threat to national security.
Go here to see a president publicly rebuke the Supreme Court.
Unmanned Camera Crime
This cartoon isn’t based on any particular news story. No, it’s personal. Well, not really personal. Mechanical and digital would be more like it.
My car got busted for speeding.
Yeah, an unmanned camera ratted out the car. Then I got a computer generated letter from the Cleveland suburb of Linndale demanding $100. And it included a photo of what appears to be my car. So, I asked the car what it was doing speeding in Linndale. But the car didn’t answer.
So, if a computer busts my car, does my car have the right to remain silent?
Menthol Cigarettes
Flavored e-cigarettes are the Mike’s Hard Lemonade of the smoking world. Kids like em. So the FDA is cracking down. The government plans to go after menthol cigarettes too. But not the stuff that actually kills you – tobacco. Before it kills you you will have paid lots of taxes on tobacco. And governments are addicted to that.
