Tale of Two Dicks
During an interview with Charlie Rose that aired Monday the president protested again that he’s not Dick Cheney. He has a point. I haven’t heard that Cheney tried to intimidate journalists and their sources, or use the IRS to intimidate political opponents.
James Taranto, in a column titled We’re all Dick Cheney Now, says Obama is trying to send a message to his base that they were right to distrust Cheney but not to distrust him for adopting and expanding the same program of spying on Americans.
Victor Davis Hanson says, “deception is now institutionalized in the Obama administration”. He calls it, “the most untruthful cast since Nixon, Halderman, Zeigler, and John Dean”.
War Bar
All good things must come to an end. Wars too. The president just doesn’t say how. Krauthammer is not impressed.
Trend Setter
“He put a target on our backs, and he’s now going to blame the people who are shooting at us?” asks Idaho businessman and longtime Republican donor Frank VanderSloot.
The WSJ’s Kimberly Strassel says the IRS scandal goes to the top. The president publicly implied enemies were out to get him and that set the tone.
Vandersloot was a wealthy contributor to the Romney campaign. He was subjected to searches of his divorce records and 3 IRS audits. He spent $80,000 defending himself.
Not Me
The thrill is gone even for Chris Mathews when it comes to the president’s engagement in his job. Dana Milbank calls him the “Passerby President”. David Fredosso at the Washington Examiner tweeted that ” Seal Team 6 is the only govt agency that acts directly on Obama’s behalf. All others are run by front-line employees making grave errors”.

John Dickerson at Slate says Obama is making the case for conservatism better than Republicans do.
