Smart Money on Cantor

140612-cantor-smart-money

Eric Canter’s role as House Majority Leader is dead and buried. The smart money assumed Cantor was a sure thing. But he lost his seat in a primary challenge by David Brat, a college economics professor.

As Majority Leader Cantor couldn’t avoid the insider ways of Washington. That didn’t sit well with voters in his Richmond, Va district. He also moved toward comprehensive immigration reform which Ann Coulter insists only sits well with Washington Insiders.

Smart Money

Speaking of smart money, Brat only spent $122,793 on his campaign. Cantor spent that much on steak houses!

In the general election the conservative economics prof will face a sociology prof, Jack Trammell… from the same faculty lounge at Randolph-Macon college.

Victory Tea Party

Mitch McConnell stomped his Tea Party primary opponent on Tuesday. The Daily Beast says the Tea Party is “losing battles but winning the war” by pulling establishment Republicans their way.

ObamaCare Victory Lap

140402-victory-lap

The world’s least likely NASCAR driver took a Rose Garden victory lap to celebrate the sudden sign up of 7.1 million souls for ObamaCare. There was no mention of how many of those souls paid a premium, which is required to actually have coverage. Also unheard from were the 6 million or so who lost their coverage, doctor, or both due to changes required by the new health care law.

President Mocks Republicans after his Victory Lap

The most notable unmentionable, however, was ACA Czar Kathleen Sebelius. The president ignored her during his shout-outs to other Democrats among the Rose Garden gathering. President Obama did stop short of further humiliation for Sebelius by not mocking her as he did Republican opponents of the unpopular legislation.

Also missing from the victory lap crowd were red state Democrats up for re-election.

It wasn’t all gauche behavior by the Driver-in-Chief of ObamaCare. The president modestly declined to call attention to his own unilateral changes to the law of the land.

Super Bowl Version XLVIII.2

140203-super-bowl-version-XLVIII.2-obamaHate to drag politics into the sports, but I didn’t want to miss out on Super Bowl Version XLVIII.2. First, Team Obama tweeted The One throwing a football. Then Bill O’Reilly interviewed him.

Dr. Krauthammer says the interview was better than the game and the score was closer.

Dana Milbank says O’Reilly treated President Obama like a guest on the Factor. Which is to say, not well. O’Reilly’s interruptions were annoying but Obama would have verbally stonewalled him if he let him. Instead he blamed his problems on Fox.

As it was Obama booted questions on Benghazi and Republicans have yet to recover the ball (view from 6:24-7:37).

Super Bowl Version XLVIII.2 Update:

Fox New’s Catherine Herridge nails the CIA for knowing the attack in Benghazi had nothing to do with demonstrations gone wild, yet the director changed talking points allowing Susan Rice to blame the attacks on protests about a video.
