Stupid Shit Obama Doctrine
When President Obama is not saying “the Bear is loose”, as he pretends to break the bonds of his keepers, he likes to say he “doesn’t do stupid shit”. Not doing stupid shit seems to be the Obama Doctrine. (I changed “shit” to “stuff” in the cartoon to get it in the newspaper. Harry Truman wouldn’t have given a shit:
Reportedly, at a speech to a Washington garden club, he kept referring to the fact that flowers need manure. Now, in those days, even the word “manure” was a little extreme for such ladies, and afterwards one complained to Mrs. Truman. “Can’t you get the President to say ‘fertilizer?’” “Heavens, no,” Mrs. Truman replied “It took me twenty-five years to get him to say ‘manure’.”)
Anyway, with 2016 approaching, Hillary decided to put some daylight between herself and Barack I. In an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in Atlantic, the former secretary of state said, “Great nations need organizing principles. “Don’t do stupid shit” isn’t an organizing principle.”
Obama’s response? “That’s horse shit!”
Dana Milbank accuses our fecund fecal minded ruler of going on vacation “while the world burns”. “If not in the category of “stupid “stuff” it could fall under the heading of tone deafness.”
Even Obama agrees.
Toxic Toledo
Western Lake Erie suffers toxic algae blooms this time of year. Last Saturday the stuff got into Toledo’s drinking water.
Holy Toledo
Here’s a Daily Beast essay by Toledo Tough, P.J. O’Rourke, embracing toxic water.
Ebola Drug
Two Americans suffering from the Ebola virus seem to be responding to a new serum that works on monkeys. It’s called ZMapp. The FDA hasn’t approved it for general use.
Over 1,700 people in western Africa are suffering from Ebola. It’s fatal in most cases.
Ebola Oracle
Dr. Marie-Paule Kieny, assistant director-general at the World Health Organization says,”We need to ask the medical ethicists to give us guidance on what the responsible thing to do is.”
Nixon Impeachment Advice
Judge Napolitano says, “the government is out of control”.
President Obama has taken to taunting Congress about impeaching him. Speaker Boehner says impeachment is off the table.
Nixon
August 7 is the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s resignation under the threat of impeachment. An 18 minute gap was discovered in a Watergate phone tape transcribed by Rosemary Woods. Lois Lerner has a two year gap in IRS emails.
Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley says, “Obama is the president Nixon always wanted to be”. Tricky Dickey overachieved just by being himself according to Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen. He says Nixon’s “southern strategy” turned the Republicans into a party of racists and homophobes.
No comment from the grave of Senate constitutionalist Robert Byrd.
Update: Here’s George Will on Nixon’s lawless activities 40 years ago. He wanted to use IRS to go after his enemies but didn’t trust the top people there.
Update update: Charles Krauthammer calls Obama’s plan to grant amnesty to 5 million illegals impeachment bait (nice picture):
Such a calculation — amnesty-by-fiat to deliberately court impeachment — is breathtakingly cynical. But clever. After all, there is no danger of impeachment succeeding. There will never be 67 votes in the Senate to convict. But talking it up is a political bonanza for Democrats, stirring up an otherwise listless and dispirited base. Last Monday alone the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised more than $1 million from anti-impeachment direct mail.
UNCF and Koch Brothers
The hated Koch brothers give out a lot of money to libertarian-conservative causes. They also give a lot of money to hospitals, schools, symphonies, ballets, and the UNCF. Those on the receiving end usually don’t question their motives. They say, “thanks”, and spend the money.
UNCF
Some left leaning organization, however, are all about questioning motives. When the Brothers Koch gave $25 million to the United Negro College Fund, the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees demanded they give it back.
Instead, the UNCF said, “thanks” and accepted the gift. The AFSCME then decided a “mind isn’t such a terrible thing to waste” after all, and severed ties with UNCF.
