Socialism for Democrats

151016sanity

Obama’s 60 Minutes interview wasn’t the only thing I missed last week. The Democrats had a debate.

Thanks to Bernie Sanders, socialism is chic in the party these days.

Socialism

Sanders wants to offer free college to the middle class and he’s going to make the “greedy rich” pay for it. Problem is, even if he took all the income of the top 1%, which pays 40%, of all federal income tax it wouldn’t be enough.

Meanwhile, capitalist war hero candidate Jim Webb got treated like a returning vet 40 years ago. His son, a current war hero, sticks up for him here.

Scott Walker Snaps Out

150923-scott-walkerNow there are fifteen.

Scott Walker followed the lead of Rick Perry and shut down his campaign. He said we was helping clear the field so a positive conservative message can rise to the top. Supporters thought he would be the one to deliver that message. Between the Donald and the other candidates in the debates he couldn’t get a word in edgewise.

There are other views.

Michael Barone thinks the Republican party now appeals to people beyond traditional conservatives, libertarians, and evangelicals. That might explain Trump, Fiorina, and Carson. And the demise of Walker.

Mark Steyn called him a “performing seal”.

Fiorina Face Time

The consensus seems to be that Carly Fiorina, JV champ of the first Republican debate, was the winner of the second varsity debate.

Interestingly she did it on different sides of women’s issues. She roughed up The Donald implying he insulted all women by making fun of her appearance. Then she attacked federal funding for Planned Parenthood calling its trade in fetal body parts a question of “the character of our nation”.

Hillary Believes

150916-Hillary-BelievesHillary believes rape victims. Sometimes.

At a press conference this week Mrs. Clinton said college women who claim they were raped should be believed. She even reinforced her remarks by tweeting this little video saying you have a right to be believed.

A discredited Rolling Stone story earlier this year showed that’s not always the case.

What was Hillary thinking? Maybe was reaching out to Juanita Broaddrick. This is from a February 25, 1999 article by Howard Kurtz in the Washington Post:

Juanita Broaddrick told her story to a national television audience last night, saying she did not tell authorities 21 years ago of her contention that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted her because “I just don’t think anyone would have believed me.”

Hillary’s Classified Comments

150903-classifiedMark Thiessen quotes Dave Barry:

“when your opponent is obviously right and you are spectacularly wrong.” The answer, he wrote, is simple: “Compare your opponent to Adolf Hitler.”

Thiessen says that’s what Hillary did when she accused The Donald of wanting to round up illegal immigrants and ship them off in box cars.

Hillary went on to compare Republicans who oppose abortion as terrorists.

She also says that if there were classified email messages on her secret server she didn’t know about it because they weren’t marked classified.
