Slippery Slope
Rand Paul’s 13 hour filibuster, extracted an agreement from the administration not to kill American citizens sitting in American cafes. For those keeping score, the Holder/Obama team has whacked 3 Americans so far.
That still leaves this administration 77 short of the Clinton/Reno mark of 80 killed in Waco Texas.
However, President Obama has shown the remarkable ability to extend the kill zone for American citizens and constitutional rights for foreign terrorists at the same time! In early March Bin Laden’s son-in-law, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, was picked up in Jordan and brought to New York for trial. Along the way he was read his Miranda rights.
The true test of Obama’s power is – will Sulaiman be forced to buy health insurance?
Stand with Rand
Rand Paul’s filibuster over all the president’s drones was a huge hash tag hit on Twitter. While Senator Paul talked himself blue in the face (with the help of Ted Cruz, MikeLee, Marco Rubio and others), old guard red state Republicans dined with the president. They were not happy with the kids’ behavior while they were out.
Best Picture to Kill an Ambassador
In a weird turn on Oscar night, Michelle Obama, flanked by U.S. military, announced Argo as the Best Picture winner. Some thought it was a little bizarre. I thought it was a little brazen. Argo is about the rescue of American embassy personnel from Islamist fanatics in Iran in 1979. Her husband, the president, was about not rescuing American embassy personnel from Islamist fanatics in Libya in 2012 – and then blaming it on a movie.
Jewish Lobby Art
Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel’s views dovetail nicely with our customer/allies in Egypt. Hagel is on record saying that the “Jewish lobby” “intimidates” people “to do dumb and stupid things”. When pressed he couldn’t name anyone else who was intimidated to do anything dumb or stupid.
For his part, Egypt’s President Morsi is on record (thanks to MEMRI – the Middle East Media Research Institute), calling Jews zionist pigs and apes.
The Egyptian government recently purchaced F-16 fighter planes.
Benghazi Fiddler
Andrew Wilson has a great piece in American Spectator (with a nice picture) asking, just what was the president doing while the Benghazi compound was burning?
