Democratic Resistance

AP reported that the Brett Kavanaugh Senate hearings touched off more Democratic resistance.

Democrats don’t have the votes to block Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. But that didn’t stop them from putting up a rowdy, leave-nothing-on-the-table fight during four days of Senate confirmation hearings that marked a new stage in the party’s resistance to President Donald Trump.

Not Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Then the Christine Blasey Ford sexual assault allegations surfaced. And Dems insisted she had to be believed. They also denied that she had a burden of proof because “it’s a hearing not a trial.”

An angry WSJ editorial responded that, “If “J’Accuse” is the new standard of proof, then we have a long list of Democrats who should be summarily dismissed from public life.”

The president ordered the release of FBI files related to the 2017 application for a FISA warrant to spy on Carter Page.

So, here’s how three different news outlets played the story:

Chuck Schumer’s Evil Schemes

Chuck Schumer’s evil schemes to hold up the Kavanaugh SCOTUS nomination kind of remind me of Havey Korman’s Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles.

It seems Schumer dispatched Diane Feinstein to send the FBI a secret letter from a secret accuser of Brett Kavanaugh. And the accuser claims the judge groped her – in high school.

The FBI declined to open an investigation.

Update 9/16

The secret accuser has been named – Christine Blasey Ford. She says Kavanough locked the door and forcibly covered her mouth and tried to pull off her bathing suit.

In a statement Chuck Grassley said:

It was “disturbing” that the “uncorroborated allegations from more than 35 years ago, during high school, would surface on the eve of the committee vote.”

But Lindsey Graham says he’d be “willing to hear what she has to say.”

Corey Booker Sparticus

Corey Booker had an I’m Spartacus moment Thursday. He and fellow Senate Democrats threatened to release “committee confidential” documents related to Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush White House.

“Spartacus” said that he was willing to sacrifice everything, including his Senate seat, in an act of civil disobedience. And true to his word, he released the documents.

But the fearless gesture fizzled. It turned out the documents had already been authorized for release the night before, sans sacrifice.

President’s Paranoia

President's paranoia

Paranoia strikes deep in the Trump White House. But maybe there really is something resembling a deep state embedded in the government.

It appears we now have a Deep Throat of the Deep State. An anonymous op-ed writer in the NYT claims he leads a cabal within in the administration that thwarts Trump’s worst impulses. Or, put another way, they thwart the will of the voters who elected him.

Republican Senator Ben Sasse pondered the president’s paranoia on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, “I don’t understand the morality of why anyone would write the piece, because it seems pretty obvious to me that what it’s going to do is foster more paranoia.”
