Christine Blasey Ford Presents Award
The publisher of the popular Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue gave its Inspiration of the Year award to Rachael Denhollander. Rachel was the first to accuse Dr. Larry Nasser of sexually abusing her as a young gymnast under his care. And over 150 other other victims came forward to corroborate her story.
Here testimony put Dr. Nasser in prison for 175 years. And his employer, Michigan State University, paid $500 million in settlements to 332 victims. Vox has has an in depth story of what happened here.
Christine Blasey Ford Presents Award
Judge Kavanaugh was put on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Obama Judges Trump Judges
U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar ruled against President Trump on an immigration matter. So Trump called him an Obama judge. And that prompted Chief Justice John Roberts to publicly rebuke the President, explaining, “there are no Obama judges or Trump or Bush or Clinton judges.”
Obama Judges
Mark Thiessen thinks jumping into a political argument is a funny way for Justice Roberts to show he’s above politics.
You may have noticed Trump doesn’t claim to be above politics. So he counterpunched that judges are a threat to national security.
Go here to see a president publicly rebuke the Supreme Court.
Citizen Trump
President Trump says he’ll end birthright citizenship. That’s the deal where immigrants give birth after entering the country illegally. The baby is a U.S. citizen according to the 14th amendment to the constitution. At least that’s what the WSJ it says means in an editorial “Rewriting the 14th Amendment.”
But according to Trump that’s not what it means. It’s kind of complicated. If you have three hours or so you can hear what Robert Bork had to say it about in 1987.
Anyway, the president says he can end birthright citizenship with an executive order. Bad idea, says Rich Lowry, that’s the kind of thing Obama used to do.
Mob Psychology
Trump denounces Democrats as an “angry mob.”
But Democrats insist they’re not a mob.
And Hillary says they’ll stop being a mob when they get back in power.
Roughing The Justice
Daniel Henninger says half the Senate Judiciary Committee created a new legal standard – “I believe Christine.”
This new standard for court nominees (and surely others in and outside politics) would be that judgment can be rendered in the absence of substantive argument or any legal standard relating to corroboration, cross-examination or presumption of innocence.
And Andrew McCarthy claims, “The real objective was not to destroy Kavanaugh but to convey what Democrats have in store for any conservative who seeks high public office.”
But you don’t have to be a conservative running for high office. Here’s a woman accusing a little boy of sexually assaulting her when he walked by with his mom.
The little boy was crying and couldn’t say if he was conservative or liberal.
