Bergdahl Not Left Behind

140603-bergdahlThe U.S. swapped five Taliban commanders from GITMO for one hostage/POW (depending on whose definition you believe). That would be one jihadi for each of Bowe Bergdahl’s five years of captivity. The swap may have been illegal because the president failed to consult with Congress – something Jay Carney promised would happen a year ago.

The official government story was that Bergdahl was “captured on the battlefield“. His comrades say he either deserted or went AWOL. They also claim that lives were lost searching for him. The Washington Times say opportunities to rescue Bergdahl were declined on the grounds he wasn’t worth the risk.

Bergdahl Not Left Behind

President Obama justified the high price paid for Sgt. Bergdahl saying, “We never leave our men and women in uniform behind.”

Elizabeth Warren

Some people consider Elizabeth Warren to be the un-Hillary candidate for the 2016 Democratic nomination. Bob Schieffer had her on Face the Nation for an interview. The question on everyone’s mind – well, at least on Bob s mind – was, “are you a socialist?” So he asked her. She expressed dismay and wondered where people get their ideas about her.

During the campaign for her Massachusetts Senate seat it came to light that the blue eyed blonde had checked the NativeAmerican box as a law professor at Harvard.

Campus Speech

Well, at least the Harvard Black Mass didn’t happen Monday night.

The Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club invited the devil himself to campus. Lucifer’s speaking gig was arranged in conjunction with the New York Satanic Temple. The event was to take place in the form of a Satanic Black Mass. Joining the Prince of Darkness at the lectern was to be Harvard professor Christopher Robichaud. According to USA Today Robichaud planned to remark on religious liberty.

Not surprisingly, Catholics were outraged and the thing was moved off campus under a storm of protest. At the last moment it was cancelled altogether.

In April Brandeis University cancelled altogether its offer of an honorary doctorate for Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She writes and speaks about real religious liberty and the real war on women in Muslim countries. She’s also a critic of Islam itself. Condoleeza Rice was driven away from her Rutgers University speech by unhinged faculty members and their poorly informed students accusing her of war crimes. IMF boss Christine Legarde was also disinvited from her speaking engagement at Smith University.

I’m not equating disinviting Legarde, Rice, or Ali to disinviting Satan. I’m equating academics to nuts.

In a column about the lack of due process in college, Thomas Sowell discusses “free speech” zones on campus:

The track record of academics in other kinds of cases is not the least bit encouraging as regards the likelihood of impartial justice. Even on many of our most prestigious college campuses, who gets punished for saying the wrong thing and who gets away with mob actions depends on which groups are in vogue and which are not.

This is carried to the point where some colleges have established what they call “free speech zones” — as if they are granting a special favor by not imposing their vague and arbitrary “speech codes” everywhere on campus.

The irony in this is that the Constitution already established a free speech zone. It covers the entire United States.

Death from Complications of Execution

140430-complications-of-execution

Suffering pets are put down humanely every day. Same goes for gramps if you live in Holland or Washington state. So what is it about death with dignity for degenerates?

Capital punishment by lethal injections is botched 7% of the times. It happened again last week in Oklahoma and last January in Ohio.

In 1999 Clayton Derrell Lockett shot Stephanie Neiman twice and then buried her alive in Oklahoma. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to die.

At 6:23 pm April 29, 2014, lest he be stressed out about his own demise, Lockett was given the sedative midazolam . He nodded off ten minutes later. Then a paralytic to stop respiration was administered along with potassium chloride to stop his heart. I’m not sure about the need to paralyze and suffocate the guy. It seems like stopping his heart might accomplish both those goals.

Execution Complications

Anyway, it didn’t work. Lockett started thrashing around and exclaimed “Oh man!”. At that point the proceedings were stopped. But the executioners blew that too. Lockett suffered a heart attack and died 43 minutes after the initial sedation.

Apparently, he succumbed to complications of his own execution.

The Tortoise and The Harry

In the old cowboy movies range wars were fought over cows and sheep. Now they’re fought over cows and dessert tortoises.

Thanks to the Cliven Bundy standoff with BLM we learned that the federal government owns 81% of the land in Nevada. Harry Reid owns the rest. Well, not quite but it seems that way.

The 7/8 on the US not under the thumb of the BLM is the “brokest nation on earth” according to Mark Steyn:

I think it’s absurd and obnoxious that an obscure and unaccountable government agency should rule an area the size of France, Germany and Italy combined. What for? Why should the 26th largest country on earth (which the Bureau of Land Management is) be maintained in perpetuity as the world’s biggest nature preserve for the desert tortoise? The seven-eighths of the United States that isn’t under the iron rod of the BLM is the Brokest Nation in History: it wouldn’t hurt to have a little more productive land.

Speaking of Bundy, Steyn doesn’t think his racial attitudes should get the BLM off the hook.

Let’s stipulate that Cliven Bundy is a racist. Let’s also assume, if only to save time, that he’s Islamophobic, homophobic and transphobic. So what? Does that make criticizing the Bureau of Land Management “racist” or “homophobic”?
