American Healthcare Act Pre-existing Conditions
House Republicans passed a bill last week to sort of repeal and replace ObamaCare. It’s called the American Healthcare Act.
The idea of insurance is to spread the risk of the cost of getting sick. According to The Health Care Blog, if you’re already sick when you buy health insurance it’s “not really insurance”. It’s just health care coverage. And it has to be subsidized.
Pre-Existing Condition
ObamaCare requires companies to sell insurance to people with pre-existing conditions at the same rate as healthy people. The AHA would allow states to apply for waivers to that requirement. HHS Secretary Tom Price says those states could then set up “high risk” pools to help subsidize coverage of the already sick with federal funds.
Here’s a list of pre-existing conditions CNN says the bill might not cover.
Jim Comey Feels Mildly Nauseous
Hillary is finished mourning her meltdown. She blames her loss on the FBI and Russians. FBI Director James Comey says he feels “mildly nauseous” about the whole thing.
Mildly Nauseous
Comey also might have felt a little queasy when he learned that Huma Abedin forwarded classified emails to the laptop of her husband Anthony Weiner, a.k.a. Carlos Danger.
Speechless in Berkeley
A generation ago UC Berkeley was considered the home of the free speech movement. Now students and imported thugs riot there to silence speakers they don’t like.
Speechless
Last week the university cancelled a speech by Ann Coulter. The school claimed it couldn’t assure her safety. She vowed to speak anyway but backed out yesterday.
Update 4/29:
Apparently anti-free speech protestors are pro-free massage. They got free rubdowns in the “Empathy Tent” at the sans Coulter event.
Federal Funding Sanctuary Cities
President Trump cracked down on sanctuary cities. He ordered restrictions on federal funding to cities that refuse to turn over undocumented immigrants to the feds. Federal District Court Judge William Orrick, blocked his order.
Last year President Obama threatened to pull federal funding from schools that don’t provide transgender restroom facilities. Trump revoked that rule in February.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had sued over the bathroom issue on the grounds that Obama had bypassed congressional authority. Judge Orick used the same reasoning to block Trump’s sanctuary order.
Getting Re-Accommodated with the Friendly Skies
The cutline on my first sketch for this cartoon read, “You just got x-rayed, searched, and groped… now you’re surprised we’re taking your seat?!”
But I changed it when I read that United CEO Oscar Munoz said the airline “re-accomodated” the lucky passengers.
CNBC reports Munoz was named communicator of the year by a public relations group in March.
