Trump Investigations
Predicted waves of blue or red didn’t break on election day. Republicans extended their hold on the Senate by a seat or two but lost control of the House. That could mean more Trump investigations. And that might be enough to cause the president a little sea sickness.
He warned House Democrats against a “war-like” posture. But a peaceful Pelosi says impeachment isn’t in the cards.
Election Day House Keeping
It’s election day house keeping time. Nancy Pelosi guarantees victory. But Mike Pence says, not in our House. We’ll soon see.
Citizen Trump
President Trump says he’ll end birthright citizenship. That’s the deal where immigrants give birth after entering the country illegally. The baby is a U.S. citizen according to the 14th amendment to the constitution. At least that’s what the WSJ it says means in an editorial “Rewriting the 14th Amendment.”
But according to Trump that’s not what it means. It’s kind of complicated. If you have three hours or so you can hear what Robert Bork had to say it about in 1987.
Anyway, the president says he can end birthright citizenship with an executive order. Bad idea, says Rich Lowry, that’s the kind of thing Obama used to do.
Agenda
Mark Penn is a pollster and analyst. He was the chief strategist for both Bill and Hillary’s presidential campaigns. NY Magazine calls him a Trump loving “sleaze ball.”
Here’s why: He recently made the point that Trump makes promises and mostly keeps them. But Democrats only agenda is to impeach Trump.
Choke it Down for Bob
The Newark Star Ledger’s endorsement of New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez for the U.S. Senate was less than rousing.
The editorial was titled: Choke it Down and Vote for Menendez.
Here’s how the paper described its man:
Before he was caught in 2015, Sen. Robert Menendez broke Senate rules by routinely accepting expensive gifts, including private jets to luxury resorts abroad. He kept those gifts secret, breaking another rule. He then used his office to promote the personal and business interests of the man who paid the bills. All that was the unanimous conclusion of the Senate ethics committee, including all its Democrats.
The “man who paid the bills” was Dr. Salomon Melgen. Commentary notes, “he was convicted of 67 crimes including $73 million worth of attempted Medicare fraud.”
