Bite of the Apple
Apple CEO Tim Cook was dragged to the U.S. Senate to apologize for his success. While his company paid $6 billion in U.S. taxes last year it paid little if anything on it’s overseas stash. All perfectly legal. Even the president doesn’t pay more than he owes.
Rand Paul said the Senate ought to apologize for the dog and pony show, but Carl Levin was having none of that as he took a crack at American pensions and 401ks by insisting that Apple send more money to foreign countries.
Shameful
It was a shameful day for Washington. The senate let the president down and we disappointed him. Again. Now he is scolding us and we are snickering. Vice Principal Biden is really pissed. They’re in danger of losing control of Junior High America and the good kids are mortified.
Political Stunts
As Human Events put it, the president “denounced political stunts during a political stunt”. Obama called the possibility of a Republican filibuster a political stunt and then flew off with family members of Sandy Hook victims to lobby Congress on gun control.
No relatives of Fast and Furious “gun walking” victims were invited.
Udate: Here’s an interesting Politico story about how professional and effective the lobbying of the Sandy Hook families is.
Obama Bahama
The Obama girls are spring breaking at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It’s the fourth Obama vacation of the new year. Meanwhile the White House remains closed to school children on spring break.
One link down on the royal food chain, Joe Biden blew half a million a night on hotels in London and Paris plus $320,000 on carfare – about the same amount the senate barber shop loses every year.
John Stossel thinks Washington has become an imperial city. He claims that 43% of the top 1% live in the Washington area, feeding off taxpayers. “It’s very much like Versailles before the French Revolution,” says historian John Steele Gordon
Stand with Rand
Rand Paul’s filibuster over all the president’s drones was a huge hash tag hit on Twitter. While Senator Paul talked himself blue in the face (with the help of Ted Cruz, MikeLee, Marco Rubio and others), old guard red state Republicans dined with the president. They were not happy with the kids’ behavior while they were out.
