Micro-Aggressions and Punchable Faces
Some on the left want to protect college students from speech and ideas that offend them. But some on the same side wish to punch a MAGA hat wearing 16 year old boy in the face.
And that offends University of Wisconsin Law School professor emerita Ann Althouse:
“It just beggars belief that the same liberals who fret about ‘micro-aggressions’ for 20-somethings were able to see 16-year-olds absorbing the worst racist garbage from religious bigots…”
Nick Sandmann’s Deplorable Friends
Nick Sandmann is the boy who smiled nervously while Native American activist Nathan Phillips pounded on a drum in his face. CNN’s Bakari Sellers called him “deplorable.” Sellers also seemed to want the old guy to step up his game and punch the kid in the face. Reza Aslan shared that sentiment in a tweet. And National Review even got in on the act saying the Covington Catholic High boys “spat on the cross.”
Why the instant viral hostility for the kids at the Lincoln Memorial?
Nick Sandmann’s deplorable friends pulled a lot of progressive triggers, according to the WSJ editorial board – “white, male, Christian, attendees at the annual March for Life in Washington and MAGA hats.
Joy Behar says the media smeared the Covington kids because “we’re desperate to get Trump out of office.”
Or maybe it was because of that lying son-of-a-bitch Johnson.
Gillette’s Real Target Audience
Here’s the Gillette ad directed at customers who may be underachieving in the best a man can be category. But ADWEEK says the ad was a hit with Gillette’s real target audience – women.
Ocasio-Cortez Dances Around Party Leadership
A star is born in the Democratic party and the leadership is worried. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has an agenda that calls for free college, free healthcare, and a 70% income tax on the wealthy. She also wants to totally eliminate fossil fuels as well as the party’s fossil leadership. And she has some nice dance moves.
The media can’t get enough of it.
The party’s millennial base has moved left. Too far left to to win elections fear its baby boom elders. “I certainly hope she’s not the future and I don’t believe she is,” says Joe Lieberman.
AOC’s response, “New party, who dis?”
Politico’s Rachel Blade and Heather Caygle take a look at the party split here in “Exasperated Democrats try to rein in Ocasio-Cortez.”
Meanwhile, WSJ editor Gerard Baker thinks “she may be one of the most important political figures of our age.”
Trump’s Speech
President Trump’s speech from the oval office was short and sweet. He demanded five and a half billion for a border wall, or barrier, or something sticking out of the ground, but didn’t declare a national emergency.
Base Fear
Marc Theissen thought it was great. Trump reached out to Americans beyond his base.
But Chuck and Nancy thought otherwise. Nancy says the wall is immoral. Chuck said Trump used the oval office to manufacture a crisis. And they both looked stiff and uncomfortable.
Could be they were looking to reach beyond their base too.
