No Obama / Rouhani Hand Shake
I missed posting this one while on the USO trip. It’s from the big UN confab in New York last month.
Iran has a new president with a nice smile. President Obama put out the word he’d be happy to shake hands with President Rouhani but Rouhani snubbed him. It kind of reminded me of Ted Kennedy’s snub of President Carter at the 1980 Dem convention.
Rouhani Takes Call From Great Satan
The Iranian leader later accepted a phone call from President Obama. Wonder how that went… “Mr. President, please hold for President Obama?” ..or “The President is with a client state right now, please hold.
Government Collapse
The majority of Americans don’t like ObamaCare but they don’t want it to collapse. They don’t want to risk a government shutdown either. Republicans hate it but are divided over risking a shutdown.
Charles Krauthammer, and Brit Hume are among conservatives who thinks it’s unlikely President Obama will sign a bill abolishing ObamaCare. They have a point.
Here’s a column by Daniel Henninger betting that Obamacare will be the straw that breaks the donkey’s back, causing the progressive agenda to collapse. Hmm.
Donkey Business
And here’s a donkey up in the air. The straw donkey was probably a better analogy but I thought this one was pretty funny.
Exceptional Exceptionalism
Putin wrote an op-ed in the NYT last week mocking Obama and the idea of American Exceptionalism. He scored bonus points because everyone knows Obama himself is not so wild about the idea. He thinks America is exceptional in the same way Britain and Greece are exceptional. Which is to say, not very. But that didn’t stop him last week from asking Americans to support an attack on Syrian president Assad – with something more than a pinprick, yet unbelievably small – because we are exceptional.
The abuse continued this week when a Russian minister claimed the Navy Ship Yard shooting was an example of American Exceptionalism.
Exceptional and Weird
Maureen Dowd had a few thoughts of her own about the president concerning the partisan speech he delivered while the shooting was still going on:
“The man who connected so electrically and facilely in 2008, causing Americans to overlook his thin résumé, cannot seem to connect anymore… Top Democrats who used to consider Obama one cool cat now muse that he’s “one weird cat,” as one big shot put it.”
When the going gets tough the weird get going.
Pinprick Peace Process
Syrian President Assad denied having chemical weapons until he agreed to John Kerry’s accidental offer to give them up. Now he denies doing so because of U..S. pressure.
President Obama called for a “shot across Syria’s bow”. Secretary of State Kerry called for an “unbelievably small strike”. Then Obama proclaimed that the United States military does not do pinpricks.
Putin Pinprick Prince of Peace Process
Not surprisingly, Putin has taken the leadership role in the Syrian crisis. He even has an opinion column in today’s New York Times to prove it.
Political Class and Law
The law doesn’t apply to big business or the political class when it comes to the Affordable Care Act.
The employer mandate requires companies with 50 or more employees to provide comprehensive health care. However, the reporting requirements were just too complex for the government to figure out, so the mandate was delayed for a year.
As a show of good will, while ramming the bill through the Senate the night before Christmas, the politicians agreed to impose Obama Care requirements on themselves. Once they passed the bill and found out what was in it they were shocked to learn it would cost them, and their staffs, huge hunks of cash. No problem. The White House helped tweak the law and our betters were unburdened.
Who’s the Law For?
Now big labor wants Obama to twerk er tweak for them.
Who will the law apply to? Just us serfs.
