Egyptian Coup Cartoon

Reboot!

I thought this was kind of an interesting comment about Egypt by Melik Kaylan in Forbes – “…the army feels it has to behave legitimately because it wasn’t elected while Morsi felt he could behave imperviously because he was elected”.

Immigration Bill

20130627-immigration - gang of eight - cartoon

The Senate passed the Gang of Eight immigration bill. It’s 2000 pages. We’ve been here before.

Putin on the Ring

130624-putin-ring-g8-cartoonAt last week’s G-8 Summit in Ireland (no relation to the Gang of Eight summit in Washington) Obama couldn’t interest Putin in his nuclear arms reduction scheme or in dumping blood-soaked Syrian ally Assad. This despite Obama’s post election flexibility.

Putin was also mum about Robert Kraft’s missing Super Bowl ring. The New England Patriot’s owner claims Putin stole it from him.

Mark Steyn speaks up here.

Taliban Peace Talks

130621-taliban-peace-negotiations-cartoonThe Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, formerly known as the Taliban, has opened an office in Qatar to hold peace talks with the US.

The talks were cancelled when doomed Afghan president Karzai expressed displeasure that the office has the appearance of a shadow government under the Taliban flag.

It turns out the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan office isn’t any more sovereign than our consulate in Banghazi. The cops came in and took down their flag.

The talks might be on again.

Red Line

130607-syria-red-line-cartoonMostly liberal columnist Richard Cohen is fed up with Obama’s dithering on Syria. Mostly conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer is fed up with Obama’s dithering on Syria too. Common ground.

Cohen wants to intervene on humanitarian grounds. As for Krauthammer : “A superpower’s role in a regional conflict is deterrence.” He feels Putin has taken Obama’s measure and our president comes up short – to put it kindly.

President Obama has said Bashar Assad will have crossed a red line if he gasses his own people. France says that gas would be Sarin.

Seems we’ve been down this line before.
