Rosenstein Extortion
Deputy A.G. Rosenstein is finally getting tough about the Mueller investigation. He’s not going to let the House Intelligence Committee extort him. Here’s how he responded when the committee’s demands for more information this week:
“There have been people making threats privately and publicly against me for quite some time,” Mr. Rosenstein said. “They should know by now the Department of Justice is not going to be extorted, and that any kind of threats that anybody makes are not going to affect the way we do our job.”
Rosenstein Extortion
So here’s what former Bill Clinton advisor Mark Penn has to say about that:
I suppose he meant to say, “Only we here at the Justice Department do the extorting, with special counsels, daylight raids of people’s attorneys, bankrupting people with legal fees, threats to prosecute family members, and questionable wiretapping of Americans.”
Finally, the WSJ’s Kimberly Strassel wants Paul Ryan to get tough with kingpin Rosenstein:
Mr. Ryan’s committee chairmen have done remarkable work exposing FBI behavior, and they deserve backup. The quickest way to get Justice and FBI to comply with these legitimate requests is for Mr. Ryan to state strongly and publicly that he has zero qualms about proceeding down the road of contempt or impeachment if House demands are not met. This is the people’s government, not the Justice Department’s.
Bumbling Boy Scout Comey Elects Trump
Here’s Holman Jenkins in his Business World WSJ column:
That Mr. Comey helped elect Mr. Trump makes it especially ironic that his early publicity tour has been so much devoted to bad-mouthing Mr. Trump’s character. Mr. Trump’s flaws are old news—he’s been bad-mouthed for decades by writers more knowledgeable and insightful than Mr. Comey. Millions of voters preferred him to the establishment alternatives anyway. This is the real news that continues to stick in the craw of Mr. Comey and many others.

Jenkins goes on to add, “Putin is right about one thing: Washington has gone insane.
First They Came for Your Guns, Now They Want Your Cutlery
The UK is experiencing a crime wave – murder by knife. So now there’s a call for reasonable knife control measures. And London Mayor Sadiq Khan stands ready to enforce them.
Knife Control
The mayor says, “there is never a reason to carry a knife.” Not only that, “Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.”
Trump Do Not Call List
President Trump defied his handlers by calling Putin to congratulate him on his election victory. He was specifically told in a leaked all caps note: DO NOT CALL PUTIN. And he did it anyway.
Russian Youth Vote
Trump congratulated Putin on his re-election. It made him the longest serving Russian ruler since Stalin.
Stalin no doubt would have admired Putin’s 74% take of the vote. But even that’s not as impressive as his 86% support among Russian young people.
Young people in American used to be less skeptical of Russian leaders too. For example, Jimmy Carter warned us of our inordinate fear of Communism. And more recently President Obama dissed Mitt Romney for calling Russia our greatest “geo-political” threat. “The 1980’s are calling and they want their foreign policy back, because the cold war’s been over for 20 years,” Obama mocked.
Brennan’s Russian Youth Vote
Speaking of the 1980’s, former CIA director John Brennan outdid both Carter and Obama. He actually voted for a real live Communist for president. In 1980 he pulled the lever for Gus Hall, leader of the American Communist Party. Brennan was disillusioned with American politics at the time but since then he’s changed his mind.
Which makes him the only American not disillusioned with politics now.
Anyway, as a young CIA recruit Brennan was required to take a polygraph test for a top security clearance. He came clean about his voting history. All was forgiven and he was put in charge of the CIA.
Kind of makes you wonder what Jared Kushner did to lose his top security clearance.
