Wall Street out on a Ledge over China
Wall Street took a deep dive yesterday on news from China. Investors are afraid China’s biggest property developer, Evergrande Group, won’t be able to make payments on its debt. If that happens the company could collapse like Lehman Brothers in 2008 and take the economy down with it.
To make matters worse the Wall Street Journal (paywall) reports that Communist Party leader Xi Jinping isn’t a capitalist! He thinks private capital is running “amok.” And he wants to force China back to “the vision of Mao Zedong, who saw capitalism as a transitory phase on the road to socialism.” He even showed up in a Mao suit.
Maybe my guy on the ledge is afraid he’s on the road to serfdom.
Germs Build Immunity
Germs build immunity. That’s because your body remembers pathogens. And it hates them. So when your body sees a pathogen it recognizes, it gets very upset and kills it. At least that’s how Harvard professor of microbiology Michael N. Starnbach, PhD sees it.
And if you don’t believe Dr. Starnbach, just ask George Carlin.
But how’s your body going to meet new germs if it’s holed up behind a mask in your basement? Besides that, hiding out from germs could drive you crazy.

Peace Prize not Awarded to Empty Suit This Year
The Nobel Prize committee gave someone other than George Bush a kick in the leg this year by honoring dissident Liu Xiaobo with the Peace Prize. China kept him in prison, so the award was presented to an empty chair.

The U.S. wants China to play a” responsible role” with North Korea. That may depend on the meaning of “responsible”.
