Venal Traitor Trump
Rand Paul doesn’t like former CIA Director John Brennan. And John Brennan doesn’t like a lot people. Especially Donald Trump.
Here’s Brennan letting us know how he feels about the Venal Traitor Trump in his own tweets:
The “dustbin of history” crack is kind of interesting because Brennan wasn’t always opposed to Russian meddling. In fact, in a youthful indiscretion at the height of the cold war in 1974, he voted for the Soviet funded American Communist Gus Hall for president.
Rand Paul thinks it’s time to yank Brennan’s national security clearance. I didn’t even know he had one. But it turns out it’s a common professional courtesy given to ex spooks.
Here’s George W. Bush’s former assistant national security advisor Elliot Abrams explaining why he kept his clearance:
Why? Because the incoming Obama White House thought that in the early months of a new administration, we might have some useful insights to impart—information about how past events had developed, or impressions of top people in foreign governments—and our successors wanted to be able to discuss classified information with us and elicit our views.
It doesn’t seem likely Brennan will be doing much consulting with the Venal Traitor Trump.
FISA Court Uncovered
In a Saturday document dump the FBI released 400 pages of its FISA court application seeking permission to spy on Carter Page. And it turns out the application was based on the Steele dossier.
FISA Court Uncovered
That’s the “salacious and unverified” dossier Comey testified about to Congress. It’s purpose was to dig dirt on Trump. It was paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign.
Kavanaugh Paper Trail
President Trump’s SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh has lots of experience. And that means a long paper trail. Chuck Schumer hopes to use it to blow up his nomination.
Here’s a WSJ editorial that says Schumer is trying to show Kavanaugh would have let Nixon off the hook over the Watergate tapes. (No relation to the Cohen Tapes.)
The editorial is titled Tricky Dick Schumer.
In The Intelligence Community We Trust
The intelligence “community” is popular with the never Trump crowd these days. Former CIA Director and Communist voter John Brennan says Trump’s behavior in Helsinki was “treasonous” and “impeachable.” The president did take Putin’s word over that of his own national intelligence director’s after all. (He changed his mind the next day with the old double negative apostrophe explanation.)
National intelligence directors didn’t always get the last word, though. James Clapper told The Senate Intelligence Committee that the NSA didn’t spy on phone calls of ordinary Americans. But ordinary Americans weren’t buying it and he later admitted, “it was the least untruthful statement he could make.”
Strzok Grilling
FBI agent Peter Strzok insisted he was able to ignore his bias against Trump while investigating him. But congressional Republicans weren’t buying it during a circus of hearing on Friday.
Strzok Grilling
U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tennessee, was so moved by Strzok’s grilling that he told him “If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would.”
