Margaret Thatcher Funeral

Ronald Reagan says that Margaret Thatcher won't mind that VP Biden didn't make it to her funeral. The vice president of the United States decides tie votes in the senate and goes to funerals. President Obama had nice things to say about Margaret Thatcher but chose not to attend her funeral. Nor did he elect to send Joe Biden.

Some Brits took this as another snub by Obama; most probably considered it a blessing.

Boston

Boston runner wearing pursuit of happiness jersey barely outruns the boston explosionI liked this column by Dr. Keith Ablow. He says, “we are vulnerable because we are free and strong”.

Assault Weapons

130406-home-defense-musketNow that the it appears “assault weapons” won’t be banned the president is pushing for tougher background checks. Automatic weapons like machine guns where you spray lead all over the place with one pull of the trigger are already illegal . Semi-automatics require a pull of the trigger for each round. Assault weapons are semi-automatics that look scary.

Update: Musket, hell. Here’s a story by John Kass, with amazing video, of a Chicago store owner fighting off an armed robber with a baseball bat.

North Korean Diplomacy

Dennis Rodman wears a dress on his visit to North Korea and says "diplomacy is hard."The new Dear Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, wasn’t mollified by Dennis Rodman’s recent mission to his country. The young -un says the time has come to “settle accounts with the U.S. imperialists”. Settlement terms include hitting targets in Hawaii, Guam, and the US homeland.

The threats may be more to impress Lil’ Kim’s own low information constituents.

Cartoonish efforts by world leaders please me. I haven’t been so pleased since Bibi’s Iran nuclear graph.

Same Sex Supreme Court

Justice Kennedy addresses Supreme Court saying "here's your chance to do for gay marriage what Roe v Wade did for abortion."Justice Kennedy isn’t homophobic, he’s Roe v Wade-phobic. He think’s “a democracy should not be dependent for its major decisions on what nine unelected people from a narrow legal background have to say”.

Which is what happened in the Roe v Wade decision. Attitudes toward abortion were already changing and Justice Ginsburg says the court went “too far and too fast in removing the issue from the political process. Anger and frustration rages over abortion today with many attitudes shifting back the other way.

But nobody likes an abortion. Everybody loves a wedding.
