Those Damn Catholics
Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee’s geeky jokes finally got him busted.
The multimillionaire president once cracked that he hoped the multimillionaire football coach, Jim Tressel, “won’t fire me”. His comment that Ohio State doesn’t play “the Little Sisters of the Poor” put him in hot water with – the Little Sisters of the Poor. But the one Gee Gaffe too far for the board of trustees was his jab at “those Damn Catholics” at Notre Dame. He said, “the fathers are holy on Sunday but holy hell the rest of the week” and “can’t be trusted on a Thursday or Friday”.
As one of those “Damn Catholics” who roots for the Irish I really can’t quibble with Gee’s remarks. Well, maybe the one about the Little Sisters of the Poor – after all, the Buckeyes do play the Akron Zips.
As penance for his sins Dr. Gee must now be remediated. Sounds painful, but it’s just the usual college commie cant about “civility, inclusion, and collective aspiration”. In other words he’s about to become as boring as every other politically correct academic who isn’t advocating bestiality.
Update: No remediation for Gee. He’s retiring.
Miranda
FBI agents thought they had 48 hours to extract terror information from Boston Bomber suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev. They were surprised when a federal judge strolled into his hospital room and read him his rights. The judge’s drop by was initiated when the Justice Department (home of the FBI) filed charges against Dzhokar.
Dzhokar’s dead brother, Tamerlan, once said that he didn’t have any American friends because he didn’t understand them.
Dzhokar, on the other hand, seems to understand Americans just fine. He immediately shut up.
New Pope Francis
Father Bergoglio paid his hotel bill and carried his bags off to his job as new Pope Francis. The first Jesuit pope, and first pope from the Americas, replaces the first pope to retire in over 600 years. Read all about it.
Slippery Slope
Rand Paul’s 13 hour filibuster, extracted an agreement from the administration not to kill American citizens sitting in American cafes. For those keeping score, the Holder/Obama team has whacked 3 Americans so far.
That still leaves this administration 77 short of the Clinton/Reno mark of 80 killed in Waco Texas.
However, President Obama has shown the remarkable ability to extend the kill zone for American citizens and constitutional rights for foreign terrorists at the same time! In early March Bin Laden’s son-in-law, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, was picked up in Jordan and brought to New York for trial. Along the way he was read his Miranda rights.
The true test of Obama’s power is – will Sulaiman be forced to buy health insurance?
Pope Benedict
Pope Benedict officially retired on Thursday. We’ve all heard that this hasn’t happened in over 600 years. We’ve also heard that it was an act of humility by a great scholar. But who’s minding the store?
