Fort Hood II
Fort Hood is a place where returning soldiers are reunited with their families. The military prefers not to turn it into an armed camp. It seems weird that a military base like Fort Hood would be a soft target full of unarmed potential victims for crazed gunmen.
Fort Hood II Shooter
The Fort Hood II shooter seemed nuts enough to me but Mona Charen makes an interesting case that this particular crazed gunman wasn’t all that crazy. Just angry:
Yet, unlike the gunmen in the other recent mass attacks, Lopez seems to have been sane. He was a married father of four and apparently close to his family of origin in Puerto Rico. He had been distraught by the recent death of his mother and apparently extremely angry with the military for delaying his leave to attend the funeral.
Ironically, Lopez had commented on his Facebook page about Adam Lanza, the Newtown murderer, writing: Lanza “pretends to be a victim of a mental illness followed by addiction to violent video games.” He continued, “It is stupid to me that anyone can have easy access to a powerful weapon without being mentally evaluated. This makes the government indirect accomplice … These bastards have perfected their way of attacking studying previous massacres to gain publicity and their minute of fame as a villain. But thanks to Hollywood and the sensational profiling by the media (they) give more power to those intelligent cowards.”
Club G 8
G-8 gentlemen are asked kindly not to invade other members of the World Community. If they do they will be asked to leave Club G 8.
Dead Fred
The God hates fags guy is dead.
Fred Phelps was the Pastor of Westboro Baptist church in Kansas. His followers appeared at events protesting homosexuality. I used to amuse myself watching them in the fenced off protest areas at political conventions. They held signs saying”God Hates Fags”. They were attention getting.
Phelps followers also liked to get attention by exercising their free speech rights to picket the funerals of troops killed in combat. They held signs saying, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers.”
Dead Fred
Dead Fred managed to shield his own mourners from any such an indignity. There were no services to honor him.
Obama Phone Prank
Vladimir Putin’s answering machine explained he couldn’t come to the phone because he was digesting Crimea, python style. President Obama left a long message explaining “might doesn’t make right“. He promised not to send troops, not that anyone was asking.
Phone Prank
After he hung up, the president slapped sanctions on a few cronies (Putin’s not Obama’s). This gambit drew laughter. The Russians farted in our general direction, calling the sanctions a “prank“.
President Obama thinks our biggest geopolitical foe is income inequality. No – wait – climate change. Mitt Romney thinks it’s Russia.
Reset to the 19th Century
Secretary of State Kerry feels President Putin’s “19th century” behavior is not up to G-8 elite standards.
This isn’t Putin’s first rodeo when it comes to dropping in uninvited on his neighbors. He invaded Georgia on President Bush’s watch in August 2008. Like the current Crimea crises, Bush didn’t do much to stop it.
Then came Hillary’s “Reset”, or Overcharge.
Reset
Michael Gerson in the Washington Post thinks the reset may have contributed to Putins feelings of grandeur:
President Obama’s “reset” with Russia was designed to end the economic, political and military isolation of Putin’s Russia after the invasion of Georgia in 2008. The Kremlin did not keep the terms of the cease-fire ending that conflict. But Obama was determined to unfreeze the post-Georgia relationship, particularly since cooperation was needed on issues of mutual concern such as Iran and Syria.
