“That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”

“You can be civil but you can’t overcome what they do unless you win elections.” – Hillary Clinton

Raising Rates

As the economy grows the fed has been raising interest rates. President Trump isn’t pleased and he let Chairman Powell know it. He said “it looks like he’s happy raising rates.” As of Wednesday stocks were negative territory for the year.

President Trump was having a good day. So good the Democrats overplayed their hand on incivility. Plus a judge threw out Stormy Daniels’ defamation suit against him. And ordered her to pay his legal fees!

But then he stepped in it and called her Horseface.

The Saudis now admit that the journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. They claim he died in a fist fight.

But the Turks (no friends of press freedom either) say otherwise.

Mike Allen in Axios quotes a “Republican source” on “the reason President Trump is buying the Saudis’ story: “Constraining Iran is the priority and Saudi is a critical ally in that effort. That ‘trumps’ the horrible human rights violation.”

Political Insanity

Lance Morrow in Thursday’s WSJ makes the point that Trump is becoming normalized, or at least people are getting used to him. Some Never Trumpers are becoming Maybe Trumpers. And even though he’s still a monster to progressives, he’s becoming “a familiar monster.”

Political Insanity

He also sees less armchair diagnosis of the president’s mental state. And, besides, he says “Trump’s peculiarities don’t seem unusual when compared with the extreme bizarreness, not to say pathology, that is routine on the left.”

John Kass calls it “the farce of identity politics gone wild.”

Morrow says people are just tired of “politics as road rage.”
