Trump Binding Wounds
Donald Trump was gracious in his acceptance speech. He called on the country to bind it’s wounds.
Binding Wounds
So, the president-elect got busy binding wounds of his own party by inviting Reince Priebus to join him onstage.
Until last night plenty of people thought he would kill his adopted party. On October 9 Ezra Kline at Vox wrote, “Trump doesn’t give a damn about what the Republican Party needs.” And that he’s willing to destroy the party for a chance to win.
Yet, as of early this morning, Republicans control the House, the Senate, the majority of states, and the White House.
Republican Convention Protesters
The Republican National Convention opened with a floor fight when The Never Trump crowd tried to overthrow the presumptive nominee. They claimed to have gathered enough signatures to change the rules requiring delegates bound to Trump to vote for him. But the signatures never saw the light of day. The protesters lost on a voice vote. Chaos ensued.
Republican Protesters
Trump went on to win the nomination last night with 1,725 delegates. He only needed 1,237.
Still, the mission of convention Republicans seems to be to be to sell The Donald – to other Republicans.
I’ve been spending some time at the RNC in Cleveland. My mission is to produce a daily sketchbook for the Akron Beacon Journal and the Tampa Bay Times. I’ll post some of the sketches on Bokbluster along with my regular cartoons.
Republicans Did It
The NYT published an editorial Wednesday calling the Orlando shooting an act of hate. But the editors then said the precise motivation for the atrocity was unclear (Heather Wilhelm calls it America’s Hapless Terror Whodunit).
Republicans Did It
The editorial solved the mystery by finding that Republicans did it.
It blamed Republicans for creating a climate of hate for L.G.B.T. Americans that led to the violence in Orlando. No mention of a climate of Islamist hate for gays.
The shooter shouted allahu akbar and called 911 to proclaim he was acting for ISIS.
Progressives believe it when a man with a penis says he’s a woman but they don’t believe a man with a gun when he says he’s an Islamic Jihadist.
Paul Joseph Watson says, “The Left has chosen to protect the feelings of Muslims over the lives of gay people.”
Not Never Trump
It’s not always Never Trump for Republican elites. Some of the leadership is coming around to The Donald. “It’s a pretty simple calculus: do you want to win or do you want to lose?,” according one operative quoted in Politico.
