Trump Investigations
Predicted waves of blue or red didn’t break on election day. Republicans extended their hold on the Senate by a seat or two but lost control of the House. That could mean more Trump investigations. And that might be enough to cause the president a little sea sickness.
He warned House Democrats against a “war-like” posture. But a peaceful Pelosi says impeachment isn’t in the cards.
Citizen Trump
President Trump says he’ll end birthright citizenship. That’s the deal where immigrants give birth after entering the country illegally. The baby is a U.S. citizen according to the 14th amendment to the constitution. At least that’s what the WSJ it says means in an editorial “Rewriting the 14th Amendment.”
But according to Trump that’s not what it means. It’s kind of complicated. If you have three hours or so you can hear what Robert Bork had to say it about in 1987.
Anyway, the president says he can end birthright citizenship with an executive order. Bad idea, says Rich Lowry, that’s the kind of thing Obama used to do.
Raising Rates
As the economy grows the fed has been raising interest rates. President Trump isn’t pleased and he let Chairman Powell know it. He said “it looks like he’s happy raising rates.” As of Wednesday stocks were negative territory for the year.
Horseface
President Trump was having a good day. So good the Democrats overplayed their hand on incivility. Plus a judge threw out Stormy Daniels’ defamation suit against him. And ordered her to pay his legal fees!
But then he stepped in it and called her Horseface.
Political Insanity
Lance Morrow in Thursday’s WSJ makes the point that Trump is becoming normalized, or at least people are getting used to him. Some Never Trumpers are becoming Maybe Trumpers. And even though he’s still a monster to progressives, he’s becoming “a familiar monster.”
Political Insanity
He also sees less armchair diagnosis of the president’s mental state. And, besides, he says “Trump’s peculiarities don’t seem unusual when compared with the extreme bizarreness, not to say pathology, that is routine on the left.”
John Kass calls it “the farce of identity politics gone wild.”
Morrow says people are just tired of “politics as road rage.”
