Ben Rhodes Benghazi Memo

140502-ben-Rhodes-benghazi-memo-talking-points

The White House was forced to cough up another Benghazi memo this week because of a FOIA request by Judicial Watch. The memo written by Ben Rhodes urged staffers to emphasize the line that the 9/11/2012 Benghazi attack was caused by an anti-Muslim movie and not a failure of policy. The attack killed a US ambassador and 3 others. At the time the president was bragging that he had decimated al Qaeda. The White House feared news of a planned terror attack would tarnish the president’s campaign theme. Rhodes and others prepped Susan Rice for 5 Sunday talk shows with the message that a demonstration against the video got out of hand, causing the violence in the Benghazi compound.

This Catherine Herridge report shows General Robert Lovell testifying that there were no ant-video demonstrations preceding the Benghazi attack.

Benghazi Memo

Charles Krauthammer says the release of the Rhodes e-mail is up there with the discovery of the Nixon tapes.

Last night Bret Baier asked National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor if he changed Susan Rice’s talking points from terror “attack” to “demonstrations” protesting a video. Spokesman Vietor replied, “Dude, this was like two years ago.”

Fort Hood II

Fort Hood is a place where returning soldiers are reunited with their families. The military prefers not to turn it into an armed camp. It seems weird that a military base like Fort Hood would be a soft target full of unarmed potential victims for crazed gunmen.

Fort Hood II Shooter

The Fort Hood II shooter seemed nuts enough to me but Mona Charen makes an interesting case that this particular crazed gunman wasn’t all that crazy. Just angry:

Yet, unlike the gunmen in the other recent mass attacks, Lopez seems to have been sane. He was a married father of four and apparently close to his family of origin in Puerto Rico. He had been distraught by the recent death of his mother and apparently extremely angry with the military for delaying his leave to attend the funeral.

Ironically, Lopez had commented on his Facebook page about Adam Lanza, the Newtown murderer, writing: Lanza “pretends to be a victim of a mental illness followed by addiction to violent video games.” He continued, “It is stupid to me that anyone can have easy access to a powerful weapon without being mentally evaluated. This makes the government indirect accomplice … These bastards have perfected their way of attacking studying previous massacres to gain publicity and their minute of fame as a villain. But thanks to Hollywood and the sensational profiling by the media (they) give more power to those intelligent cowards.”

JV Terrorism

140123-jv terrorism-team-terrorism-cartoonEver since he killed Osama bin Laden President Obama has insisted Al Qaeda is beaten and on the run. Except that al Qaeda affiliated terrorists are now instituting islamist rule in Fallujah and Ramadi, two cities liberated by the American military in 2004. In Syria al Qaeda beheads Muslims and infidels alike. And then there was the matter involving Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi.

JV Terrorism

In his New Yorker interview Obama dismissed all this as JV team terrorism.

The hunt goes on to protect the Winter Olympics from Black Widow terrorism.

Update:

Here’s a link to Stanford Professor Victor Davis Hanson’s essay “Obama’s Recessional” in which he identifies the Obama Doctrine as American withdrawal from the world:

Summed up, the Obama Doctrine is a gradual retreat of the American presence worldwide — on the theory that our absence will lead to a vacuum better occupied by regional powers that know how to manage their neighborhood’s affairs and have greater legitimacy in their own spheres of influence…

For Obama, America abroad is analogous to the 1 percent at home. We need not squabble over the reasons why the wealthiest Americans enjoy unequal access to the things money can buy, or why America, of all nations, finds itself with unmatched global clout and influence. The concern is only that such privilege exists; that it is unfair; that it has led to injustice for the majority; and that it must be changed…

Just as the United States would be a lot better place if a few million were not so rich, so too the world would be better off if the United States — and to a lesser extent Europe — were not so powerful and interventionist.

JFK and a Silly Little Communist

131123 oswald-silly-little-communistKennedy Week was a very good week for Ira Stoll’s book Kennedy, Conservative. He makes the case that JFK was an anti-communist supply sider and would be a conservative today.

Maybe. Most of the other 11 year olds I knew in those days were anti-communist too. Not so sure about the supply side part – my peer-group wasn’t up to speed on tax policy. A quick look at Youtube, however, does show Kennedy was for tax cuts to increase employment and cut the deficit.

He was also in favor of civil rights. At least his wife thought so:

“He didn’t even have the satisfaction of being killed for civil rights. It’s — it had to be some silly little Communist.”

Jacqueline Kennedy, Nov. 22, 1963

Which brings us to this piece by Rich Lowry. He complains that James McAuley, in a NYT oped, pins the murder on “Dallas, a city of hate with a death wish in its eye”. (Now we know who shot JR.) Manny Fernanez, also in the NYT, blames it on an “angry anti-Washington culture”.

I think President Kennedy was swell but where can I sign up for this Angry Anti-Washington Culture?

JFK and A Silly Little Communist

The real conspiracy about the Kennedy Assassination is the myth built by the left that sinister right wing forces cut down the young president – when it was really just a silly little Communist.

Ariel Castro

130905-ariel-castro-suicide-cartoon-Ariel Castro avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to imprisoning and raping three women for 11 years. He was sentenced to imprisonment – and probable rape – for life plus 1,000 years. He couldn’t take it for more that one month. He was found hanging in his cell.

Ariel Castro Final Irony

Had he not copped a plea he probably would have been sentenced to death row where he would be under watch and still alive today.
