Run For It
Rather than Winning the Future, Obama refuses to Lose the Past. At least that’s the way Rich Lowry sees it.
In a noisome bit of body-snatching, the Madison protesters associate themselves with the demonstrators in Egypt. If we must use Egypt analogies, this has it backward. Tapping into new technologies empowering individuals, the anti-Mubarak protesters overthrew a sclerotic political system that no longer fit the times. In their aims, the anti-Walker throngs are more like Egypt’s counterdemonstrators who rode in on camels to try to save a decrepit, 30-year-old political dispensation.
High Speed Wail
Alan Simpson called the deficit a “stink bomb in the garden party”. The Obama budget went for the only thing more dear to liberals than bicycle paths – high speed rail. Robert Samuelson says this stink bomb would cost $500 billion over 25 years. I don’t know – less than a trillion sounds cheap these days.
Failure to Communicate
Maybe a 55th speech on Obamacare would have set us straight. The Democrats blamed their problems on poor communication to the end.
Wrong Stuff
Neil Armstrong feels Obama has made a giant leap in the wrong direction by canceling the NASA Constellation program. The president says he’s still spending astronomical sums on space and plans on a mars landing by the mid 2030s. A convenient getaway before social security goes broke in 2041.
