The Pope is not a Supply Sider
I learned more about Pope Francis yesterday. He is not a supply sider, but he used to be a bar bouncer.
His latest message, “The Joy of the Gospel” or “Evangelii Gaudium”, if you prefer dead languages, has created a stir. It’s about 80 pages long and I haven’t read it. Ok, I admit I haven’t read the Affordable Health Care Act either.
But I have read about it. It seems to be mostly about – the Gospel. The pope wants the church to get its hands and feet dirty spreading the good news.
Pope Not a Supply Sider
He’s also doesn’t like poverty and inequality and he’s skeptical of the free market. The president feels the same but that gave us ObamaCare.
If you would like to actually read Evangelii Gaudium, in English, here it is. Or if you just want to read about it, you might like to go here, here, or here.
Saddam Red Line
It looks like Obama’s red line in Syria has been crossed again. UN inspectors are testing victims for poison gas. Putin says if gas was used it was the rebels who did it.
The Assad government is supported by Iran and Hezbollah. Al Qaeda looms large among the rebels.
Hezbollah vs al Qaeda in Syria
So it’s Hezbollah vs. al Qaeda. In a Sunday NYT article titled In Syria, America Loses if Either Side Wins, Edward Luttwak claims the best we can do is hope nobody wins.
Update:
John Kerry now says a chemical attack is “undeniable”.
Al Sharpton
When I think of Al Sharpton I think of two words – Tawana Brawley. Now I think of two more – Personal Stylist.
Update:
Here’s Shelby Steele on what he calls “today’s civil rights establishment”. He says it’s leaders use poetic license to create “poetic truth” namely, that America is a racist nation.
“And here, precisely at the point of this verdict, is where all of America begins to see this hollowed-out civil-rights establishment slip into pathos. Almost everyone saw this verdict coming. It is impossible to see how this jury could have applied the actual law to this body of evidence and come up with a different conclusion. The civil-rights establishment’s mistake was to get ahead of itself, to be seduced by its own poetic truth even when there was no evidence to support it. And even now its leaders call for a Justice Department investigation, and they long for civil lawsuits to be filed—hoping against hope that some leaf of actual racial victimization will be turned over for all to see. This is how a once-great social movement looks when it becomes infested with obsolescence.”

Gay Marriage Goes Viral
Supreme Court swingman, Justice Anthony Kennedy, wrote the majority opinion overturning the Defense of Marriage Act. After writing that the issue of gay marriage should be left to the states he described its opponents as bigots. Here’s Rich Lowry in Politico:
The majority held that DOMA inflicts an “injury and indignity” on gay couples so severe that it denies “an essential part of the liberty protected by the Fifth Amendment.” It is motivated by a “‘bare congressional desire to harm a politically unpopular group.’” There is, in short, nothing to be said for it or the point of view of its supporters. Period. Full stop.
Those bigots would include Bill Clinton, who signed DOMA into law (but, newly enlightened, is glad to see it go), Barack Obama (until he changed his mind “the day before yesterday”), “342 members of the House, and 85 Senators”. Actually, most members of the human race were on board with the bigots until millions changed their minds – the day before yesterday .
