Dem Hopes Sink
With the defeat of Alex Sink in a Florida special Congressional election, some Democrats’ hopes may be sunk.
Hopes Sink
Sink was a capable moderate Democrat running in a district that supported Obama twice for president. She couldn’t be blamed for ObamaCare because she wasn’t in Congress when it passed. But rather than run away from the ACA she let it stick to her by promising to mend it, not end it. She ended up losing to David Jolly, a former lobbyist who promised to repeal the thing.
The President, the Governors, and the Minimum Wage
In his continuing effort to avoid Congress, President Obama met with state governors on Monday. He stressed that they can can do practical and popular things together, like raise the minimum wage. He’s already flown solo raising the minimum for federal contract workers.
Minimum Wage Economy
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal responded that the Obama economy is a minimum wage economy. Jay Carney said Jindal prefers a $7.25 economy. The Office of Management and Budget says raising the minimum wage will cost 500, 000 jobs.
Meanwhile, the economy in North Dakota is booming. Wages there are soaring for workers who do the one thing the president hates most – produce fossil fuels.
Ted Nugent
Ted Nugent says he’s sorry, kind of, for referring to the president as a subhuman mongrel. He’s also sorry that his words will be used against politicians he supports.
“I did cross the line, I do apologize”, Nugent said, “not necessarily to the president , but on behalf of much better men than myself, like the best governor in America, Rick Perry, and the best attorney general in America (Greg Abbott)”.
Republicans are keeping their distance.
Where Does Wendy Stand?
Wendy Davis became famous for her pink running shoe filibuster in the Texas assembly. She was trying to stop the passage of a law to ban abortion after 20 weeks and require higher standards for abortion clinics. She claimed ignorance of the Gosnell case.
A national “Stand With Wendy” campaign erupted among the pro abortion crowd.
Wendy cashed in on her fame to run for governor. But her campaign took on water when Wayne Slater reported on her resume in the Dallas Morning News. Now she’s trying to right her ship by standing with the abortion limiting views she filibustered.
No Place for Right-to-Lifers
Governor Cuomo’s office insists his claim that New York is no place for right-to-lifers, assault weapon lovers, and opponents of gay marriage, only applied to Republican politicians. Michael Gerson says it’s a sign of his intolerance and unwillingness to engage ideas he doesn’t agree with.
Two days after the Guv’s remarks Cardinal Dolan held an already planned pro-life Mass at his place in New York – St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
