   Combined with $20,000,000 in lobbying efforts to ensure that the tax code is something they can manipulate to their advantage.

   The question here isn’t why GE paid little income tax, but why can’t we have a system where other businesses pay little income tax. Use taxes, OK, (e.g. property taxes for fire and police) but income taxes just prevents them from hiring. Tax them when they distribute profits to shareholders (that is, on the shareholders), not the business.
