Police Violence and Trump’s Daily Assaults…

Police violence, American left, lost its mind

But police violence, and Trump’s daily assaults on the presidential competence standard, are only part of the disaster. On the other side of the political aisle, among self-described liberals, we’re watching an intellectual revolution. It feels liberating to say after years of tiptoeing around the fact, but the American left has lost its mind.

Defund Police to Avoid Trouble and get Votes

New York City just defunded its police to the tune of $1 billion. That’s 17% of the law enforcement budget. Murders there are up 21% over a year ago but the funds will be redirected to social services.

“It’s almost like someone thinks there’s a benefit to keeping people divided.” That’s the last line of Matt Taibbi’s Rolling Stone critique of the #1 best seller “White Fragility”.

Defunding the Police in the Land of CHAZ

Defunding the police, new nation, CHAZ

Here’s a glimpse of what defunding the police looked like this week. Protesters in Seattle founded a new nation in the hood called CHAZ.

The cops ran away from Chaz without a fight. And the new national ruling elite seem to be using the abandoned police station as its capitol.

My cartoon below is an oldie from the 1999 ant-globalism protests in Seattle.

Police State

Poor Eric Holder. He might have saved himself a lot of trouble by simply looking up reporter James Rosen’s phone records among the records of all Verizon customers collected by the NSA, as reported in The Guardian.

That action occurred under a FISA court order and was an expansion of phone surveillance of suspected foreign terrorists which began under the Bush administration Patriot Act.

Catherine Herridge at Fox News reports that, in March, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper denied that NSA intentionally collects data on millions of Americans.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that police may take DNA samples from anyone they arrest. Here’s a piece by Jeffery (the other) Rosen about Scalia’s dissent in favor of the fourth amendment.

Update: It’s not just your  phone calls anymore. This morning’s Washington Post reports that the government mines your internet data too.

Peaceful Demonstrations Trashing Cities

Peaceful protests? President Clinton might say, “it depends on the meaning of “peaceful.”

A BBC headline in June reported, “27 police officers injured during largely peaceful anti-racism protests in London.”

And ABC News continued the trend last weekend reporting that “peaceful demonstrations intensified” in Oakland. Rioters set a courthouse on fire and assaulted police officers.

President Obama once said that shovel ready jobs “weren’t as shovel ready as we expected.”

shovel ready, Biden, Obama

Peaceful protests don’t seem to be as peaceful as we expected.
