ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, NPR SHOULD GET OFF THE DOLE
From the WSJ April 25, 2024 – In an essay earlier this month on the news site the Free Press, NPR editor Uri Berliner said the public radio network had lost it’s way by letting liberal bias skew its coverage. NPR erred on big stories including the origins of Covid-19, Hunter Biden’s laptop and the Israel-Hamas conflict, he wrote. Berliner was suspended last week and subsequently resigned.
I used to listen to NPR. I really liked Car Talk, All Things Considered and Terry Gross on Fresh Air. But over the years it’s become a little too smug to take. Or maybe I used to be a lot more smug and didn’t notice.
Anyway, nobody’s forcing me to listen to NPR so I have no problem with it, except that I’m forced to pay for it. NPR is partially funded by the government and it’s hard to see why, all things considered.
NPR Seeks Tea Party Invitation
NPR faces the same federal defunding fate as cowboy poets. Former NPR executive Robert Schiller was caught on tape calling members of the Tea Party gun toting racists. That cost him his next job at the Aspen Institute (he was already leaving NPR). NPR CEO Vivian Schiller (unrelated) got the axe too.
Some of NPR’s top guns, including Robert Siegel, Scott Simon, and Nina Totenberg, put out an open letter denouncing Robert Schiller’s comments. Here’s an LA Times story.
I wonder if cowboy poets tote guns.
Oppressed Minority
NPR’s sacking of Juan Williams for incorrect Muslim thoughts has created an uproar. Politico says Fox News has offered to help relieve Williams’ oppression with a 3 year contract worth $2 million.
